Check out this rare opportunity to purchase approximately 99 acres of the 835-acre Marquette Island, located in the middle of the Mississippi River near Cape Girardeau! Marquette Island is one of seven islands in the Mississippi River identified as a “string of pearls” by the Middle Mississippi River Partnership. This is a great recreational tract - perfect for boating, fishing, and camping. The island provides a home for the endangered interior least tern (bird), and helps form a protective shelter for the endangered pallid sturgeon (fish). The northern and western portions of the island face industrial and commercial uses on the Missouri side, while this southeastern portion provides a more secluded, reliable, highwater campsite. The woods consist of cottonwood and willow, while the rest of the tract is a sandbar varying in size depending on water levels. Find a place protected by the trees to camp, and enjoy the enchanting view of the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge and the city lights behind from the water!
